The Importance of Vitamins towards Health Protects Against Environmental Caused Genetic Mutations
Regarding the
importance of vitamins towards health, we've seen how vitamins can protect our child's body from genetic damage
as, for example, when expectant mothers take folic acid that prevents certain genetic birth defects, like spina bifida.
Since the importance of vitamins towards health has been noted in protecting children from genetic damage prior to birth, it should, also, protect children after birth. The
fact, according to Dr. Bruce Ames, that high dose vitamin
therapy has been used to treat over 50 genetic diseases further evidences this protective genetic function in the importance of vitamins towards health. Finally, it is known that vitamins can compensate for genetic mutations and even repair genetic material like DNA.
Hence, there can be little doubt of the importance of vitamins towards health in protecting children from environmentally caused genetic mutations.
But what are some of the environmental hazards that indicate the importance of vitamins towards health,?
Fluoride for one. Would you knowingly consume an ingredient in rat poison? Yes, fluoride has been used as a rat poison. More and more countries are banning fluoride for the following reasons:
- It reduces fertility in men,
but 1-2 grams vitamin C
increases fertility-
one of the indications of the importance of vitamins towards health.
- Studies indicate it can lower IQ.
- Scientific research has shown that relative low doses
caused brain damage in rats.
- Research indicates it can cause bone cancer in male
children.
- Although fluoride appears to increase bone material that
material may be weaker than normal bone, causing an increase in hip fractures.
- A study in the United Kingdom found increased perinatal
deaths and a 30% increase in Down’s Syndrome in a higher socio-economic area fluoridating their water as opposed to a nearby area which did not.
- Recent large scale studies showed no significant cavity
protection from fluoridated water.
- In the U.S., where fluoridation was introduced in the
1960s and 1970s, an overwhelming number of people are developing chronic immune disorders.
- Double blind studies found acute adverse reactions from
fluoridation.
- Chronic fluoridation can cause skeletal fluorosis, a
serious disease, not normally diagnosed by medical professionals.
- Fluoridation, due to fluorides association with arsenic
and lead, can lead to toxic levels of these metals as well.
- Fluoride can cause osteoarthritis.
- Fluoride appears to contribute to repetitive stress
injury.
- Fluoride is known to suppress the thyroid and, thus,
contribute to slow bodily metabolism, a condition called hypothyroidism, which often leads to weight gain.
- Fluoride has caused a large number of acute poisonings.
Rat poisons and many insecticides contain fluoride.
- U.S. EPA officials voted unanimously against a
California initiative in favor of fluoridation.
- Fluoridation is banned or not used in an overwhelming
number of industrialized countries.
-
Fluoridation increases stupidity and docility in prisoners
and has been used for population behavior control.

What supplements might be included in a child nutrition program to protect from fluoride toxicity? According to Dr. Russell L. Blaylock, neurosurgeon, in an interview on the 700 Club. http://www.cbn.com/CBNNews/News/021126e.asp, the following vitamins and minerals are helpful: one gram of magnesium gluconate, 400-800 IU of vitamin E as
alpha-tocopherol, one gram of calcium citrate and 400-800 IU of vitamin D. These are daily doses and indicate the importance of vitamins towards health in decreasing fluoride poisoning.
A child nutrition program that avoided fluoride all together would be the best approach to this poison problem.
Autism has increased 1000% in 20 years time. Apparently mercury in vaccines is the cause. Dr. Len Horowitz mentions the fact the Centers for Disease Control suppressed studies showing that vaccinations contained too high dosages of mercury.
For a complete explanation of the dangers of vaccinations, watch this video. The importance of vitamins towards health needs to be considered as an alternative to dangerous vaccinations.
Other environmental toxins are damaging children before they are conceived by killing sperm and creating malformed and tired sperm. A 1992 study in the British Medical Journal found that in the US the sperm count has dropped over 40% since 1940, from 113 million to 66 million per milliter.
There is scientific consensus on the declining sperm counts, as well as, the increase of abnormally shaped sperm. Yet, the chemical industry has tried its best to convince the public and elected officials there is no cause for alarm.
In 1999, a meta-review of over 60 studies, by University of Missouri epidemiologist Shanna Swan, found a dramatic decline of average sperm density in the U.S. and Western Europe from 120 million sperm in 1938 to 50 million sperm per milliliter in 1988. She found sperm counts have been dropping by the staggering rate of 3.1% each year between 1971 and 1990!
If environmental toxins are destroying sperm and causing sperm to be malformed, this indicates these toxins are interfering with the genetic process that forms sperm. If these environmental toxins are responsible for genetically deformed sperm, doesn't it make sense that these same toxins are creating genetic defects in, not only our unborn children, but even in our children- yet another indication of the importance of vitamins towards health.
The importance of vitamins towards health justifies a child nutrition program to help defend our children against these environmentally caused genetic defects?
After interviewing dozens of experts in the field of endocrinology and reproductive health, author Larry Wright, reported the following information:
- Danish endocrinologist Niels E. Skakkebaek said it has
become difficult for sperm banks to establish a core of donors. In some areas of Denmark, for example, they are having to recruit ten potential donors to find one with good semen quality.
- Skakkebaek also reported that 84% of the Danish men he
studied had sperm quality below the standards set by the World Health Organization.
- There has been a three-fold increase in men whose sperm
count is below 20 million, the point at which fertility is jeopardized.
- Researchers at the Washington Fertility Study Center
report that the sperm counts of their donors, largely medical students, have suffered a steady decline for many years, to the point that the researchers are now worried that, if the decline continues at the same rate, by the year 2002 there will be no potential donors who can meet the approved or recommended standards.
- The fact is that the number of morphologically normal
sperm (meaning sperm with a normal shape) produced by the average man has dropped below the level of those of a hamster, which has testicles a fraction the size man’s.
What is causing the sperm crisis? According to a 1993 "Lancet" article, the cause is due to the exposure of unborn male fetuses to estrogens that permanently alter their sexual development and ability to produce sperm.
The importance of vitamins towards health may be realized in saving our species from destruction through preserving the vitality of sperm.
Estrogens in the diet have increased due to the following:
- Women eating cattle meat laced with estrogenic
hormones found in Steer-oid, Ralgro, Compudose, and Synovex, which are still used in virtually every cattle feedlot in the US.
- Estrogens from exposure to synthetic organic
chemicals and heavy metals released into the environment in massive quantities since World War II. PCBs and dioxins are examples.
- Organic farmers were found to have much higher sperm
counts than farmers using chemicals.
The importance of vitamins towards health is illustrated in the following child nutrition program to diminish genetic hazards.
Adding Zinc, vitamins C and E to a child nutrition program is reported to be helpful. Switching to an all organic food diet is probably one of the best ways to avoid estrogens found in ordinary food. Writing your state and federal representatives and encouraging them to see that all environmental laws are being followed to the letter is another approach to this problem.
Since natural progesterone directly opposes estrogen, and often increases by a factor of 10 during pregnancy, signifying its importance in supporting the unborn child, supplementing mothers during pregnancy with progesterone may counteract the estrogenic affects of environmental contaminants.
What other studies exist, concerning contaminants, that might initiate a child nutrition program emphasizing the importance of vitamins towards health?
According to the Environmental Working Group:
In the month leading up to a baby's birth, the umbilical cord pulses with the equivalent of at least 300 quarts of blood each day, pumped back and forth from the nutrient- and oxygen-rich placenta to the rapidly growing child cradled in a sac of amniotic fluid. This cord is a lifeline between mother and baby, bearing nutrients that sustain life and propel growth.
...In a study spearheaded by the Environmental Working Group (EWG) in collaboration with Commonwealth, researchers at two major laboratories found an average of 200 industrial chemicals and pollutants in umbilical cord blood from 10 babies born in August and September of 2004 in U.S.
hospitals. Tests revealed a total of 287 chemicals in the group. The umbilical cord blood of these 10 children, collected by Red Cross after the cord was cut, harbored pesticides, consumer product ingredients, and wastes from burning coal, gasoline, and garbage.
This study represents the first reported cord blood tests for 261 of the targeted chemicals and the first reported detections in cord blood for 209 compounds. Among them are eight perfluorochemicals used as stain and oil repellants in fast food packaging, clothes and textiles — including the Teflon chemical PFOA, recently characterized as a likely human carcinogen by the EPA's Science Advisory Board — dozens of widely used brominated flame retardants and their toxic by-products; and numerous pesticides.
Of the 287 chemicals we detected in umbilical cord blood, we know that 180 cause cancer in humans or animals, 217 are toxic to the brain and nervous system, and 208 cause birth defects or abnormal development in animal tests. The dangers of pre- or post-natal exposure to this complex mixture of carcinogens, developmental toxins and neurotoxins have never been studied.
...Chemical exposures in the womb or during infancy can be dramatically more harmful than exposures later in life. Substantial scientific evidence demonstrates that children face amplified risks from their body burden of pollution; the findings are particularly strong for many of the chemicals found in this study, including mercury, PCBs and dioxins. Children's vulnerability derives from both rapid development and incomplete defense systems:
- A developing child's chemical exposures are greater
pound-for-pound than those of adults- indicating the importance of vitamins towards health in diminishing exposure affects.
- An immature, porous blood-brain barrier allows greater
chemical exposures to the developing brain.
- Children have lower levels of some chemical-binding
proteins, allowing more of a chemical to reach "target organs."
- A baby's organs and systems are rapidly developing, and
thus are often more vulnerable to damage from chemical exposure.
- Systems that detoxify and excrete industrial chemicals
are not fully developed.
- The longer future life span of a child compared to an
adult allows more time for adverse effects to arise, indicating yet more future importance of vitamins towards health.
The need for a child nutrition program is bolstered by the bulleted points just mentioned. That is to say, both our unborn babies and children are at even greater risk than we adults from these dangerous chemical genetic contaminants. The importance of vitamins towards health will, therefore, increase in the future.
This overwhelming exposure of the unborn baby to deadly toxic chemicals is, probably, beyond any child nutrition program to completely compensate for. What is needed is an environmental clean-up and the consumption of organic foods as part of a broad child nutrition program emphasizing the importance of vitamins towards health.
The situation being what it is, with the heavy contamination of our unborn babies in the womb, together with the lack of protection from a child nutrition program, these duel factors allow contaminants to create the disorders listed below that are presently destroying our unborn children.
According to the Environmental Working Group:
Over the past 50 years, as infectious childhood diseases like polio, smallpox, rheumatic fever, and diphtheria have largely been controlled, chronic conditions of less obvious origins have taken their place. Asthma, autism, attention deficit and hyperactivity disorders (ADD and ADHD), childhood brain cancer and acute lymphocytic leukemia have all increased over the past 30 years. Five to ten percent of American couples are infertile. Up to half of all pregnancies end in miscarriage. Three to five percent of babies are born with birth defects (CDC 2004, Jahnke et al. 2005, Trasande and Landrigan 2004). Scientists cannot fully explain these increases, but early life exposure to environmental pollutants is a leading suspect.
| Autism | 10X | increase early 80's -1996 |
| Male Birth Defects | 2X | increase hypospadias,1970-1993 |
| Childhood Asthma | 2X | increase 1982-1993 |
| Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia | 62% | increase in children,1973-1999 |
| Childhood Brain Cancer | 40% | increase 1973-1994 |
| Preterm Birth | 23% | increase mid 80's-2002 |
| Infertility | 5-10% | of couples |
| Birth Defects | 3-5% | of all babies |
| Sperm Counts | 1% | decrease yearly 1934-1996 |
Landrigan 2004, Jahnke et al. 2005
...In light of the findings in this study and a substantial body of supporting science on the toxicity of early life exposures to industrial chemicals, we strongly urge that federal laws and policies be reformed to ensure that children are protected from chemicals, and that to the maximum extent possible, exposures to industrial chemicals before birth be eliminated. The sooner society takes action, the sooner we can reduce or end pollution in the womb.
Looking at the figures in the foregoing table, one wonders how much a child nutrition program, stressing the importance of vitamins towards health, might have decreased these numbers? Certainly better monitoring of our environment for contaminants, together with the necessary legal muscle to enforce environmental laws would have made a big difference.
A question remains unanswered, regarding these diseases.
Since estrogenic substances cause many of these environmental diseases, does bioidentical oral progesterone work to mitigate or neutralize these diseases?
Some thoughts and queries, regarding the aforementioned findings, to be considered in formulating a child nutrition program are:
- Given the time of children's gene exposure to
contaminants and the massive number of carcinogenic contaminants, could cancer be completely environmental caused?
- When children underperform in school, or when they
appear to be "lazy," could this behavior be due to one or more of the 217 environmental contaminants found in fetal blood?
- Could many of the different disorders that have sprung
up over the past couple decades, like fibromyalgia, carpal tunnel syndrome, the rash of migraines and mental problems, the increase in prostate cancer and cancer of the female reproductive organs, be due to environmental contaminants damaging our genes?
If this is the case, then what is needed is, not only a comprehensive child nutrition program, but an adult one as well. Some recommendations for both an adult and child nutrition program might be the following:
- Passage of tough new environmental laws with the legal
teeth and muscle to get the job done; that is, to clean up this contaminant mess.
- Widespread use of, not minimum daily requirement
vitamin and mineral supplements, but optimally formulated supplements to help defend children and adults against the aforementioned genetic contaminants that are re-programming our genes.
- The addition of natural progesterone for pregnant women
and women who are about to conceive might, not only prove helpful in fighting genetic contaminants, but help produce children of superior health, as already evidenced.
- A prudent adult and child nutrition program would
emphasize the consumption of organic foods to avoid the aforementioned contaminants.
- Hair analysis and other necessary toxicology studies to
determine the present state of our children's genetic contamination.
- Special diets and chelation therapy to remove bodily
contaminants for those seriously affected.
- The passage of national health insurance to pay for this
adult and child nutrition program, making it available to all children.
- To make available and to encourage all individuals to
see nutrition oriented physicians or specialists to help formulate an optimal daily dose of vitamins for both the adult and child nutrition program.
- To recommend that as a part of any adult and child
nutrition program that everyone drink filtered water that is free of the genetic contaminants. Shower and bath water would need to be filtered as well, since contaminants are often easily absorbed from warm water.
- Particularly high optimal quantities of vitamin C, E
the B vitamins, and lipoic acid (a good metal chelator) would need to be considered since they appear to possess particular value in dealing with genetic contaminants. The importance of vitamins towards health becomes apparent by the fact that some vitamins can actually chelate and removecontaminants from the body.
- To discontinue drinking water from plastic containers,
which are easily contaminated and to use glass containers instead.
A comprehensive environmental human protective program, including a child nutrition program would prove challenging, but but the importance of vitamins towards health suggests it would prove worthwhile. The knowledge and technology exist to formulate one. What is lacking is the public knowledge of the gravity of this environmental genetic contamination problem, together with the importance of vitamins towards health in saving our children.
The importance of vitamins towards health in a child nutrition program cannot be emphasized enough because, among their other influences, they exert genetic affects. Some of these genetic affects are the following:
- Vitamins repair damaged DNA, the genetic blue print that
determines who we are.
- Vitamins prevent genetic defects, that cause diseases,
like spina bifida. High dose vitamins have been used to
treat more than 50 different genetic diseases.
- Vitamins can substitute for lost genes. For example,
taking vitamin C compensates for the loss of the gene that
was responsible for producing vitamin C-another indicator of the importance of vitamins towards health.
- The importance of vitamins towards health is seen in the
way vitamins exert their genetic influence by acting as a coenzyme, a subtance that enhances the affect of the enzyme produced from the gene.
- Vitamins, also, exert their genetic influence by acting
as antioxidants that prevent free radicals from directly
attacking the enzyme produced from the gene-another point for the importance of vitamins towards health.
- Taking into consideration that a national survey found
that 60% of the US population had not taken one vitamin over
the past month, the importance of vitamins towards health is not realized by the population at large.
Hence, a child nutrition program could, not only go a long way in improving the health and life of our nation's children, but prevent or decrease serious life threatening genetic damage and diseases as well, if only the importance of vitamins towards health became widely publicized.
- Finally, the importance of vitamins towards health is
suggested in the sensitivity of the body to vitamin shortages. Even marginal deficiencies in vitamin C were found to result in increased irritablity and fatigue! (Levine, M., Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 1996;93:3704-3709.)
