It is somewhat fashionable to place feelings above conscious thoughts, the idea being that emotions are more basic and natural than conscious reasoning is. The two actually go together but your conscious thinking largely determines your emotions, and not the other way around.

Government bond yields are dropping throughout the world.

Record or close to record low yields on government bonds indicates enormous buying demand. Bonds hitting record low yields are by definition hitting record high prices. Moreover bond prices are going up when supply has undergone a tremendous expansion to pay for all the economic stimulus programs governments are running. So demand for government bonds has to be increasing faster than the rapidly growing supply if yields are falling. The obvious question is: Who is buying all of these bonds?

If yields were dropping in just one country instead of in almost everywhere, increased demand might be partially explained by countries with big foreign reserves like China buying more government debt. China has been a major purchaser of U.S. treasuries for a long time, but last month it sold about 3% of its holdings. Yet yields on long-term treasuries continued to drop, when they should have gone up.

Essentially, the central banks are 'printing' huge amounts of new money. This money goes into the financial system and gets recycled into purchasing government bonds and also stuck in the banking system as reserves. Most of the newly created money does not go into the real economy. It does allow governments to spend much more money than they could have ordinarily however, but most of this 'stimulus' actually goes for maintaining the status quo (with the objective of preventing further collapse) rather than for anything that would create growth in the future. So the economy stagnates, but holds up as long as the money printing ruse can be maintained. This is a liquidity trap and much of the global economy has already fallen into it based on the interest rate behavior of government bonds.

A liquidity trap is an ugly situation to say the least. Either a country continues to spend its wealth to support its lifestyle until all of it is dissipated and complete impoverishment occurs or it finds a way to get some of the liquidity into the real economy. The problem is that only small measured amounts of liquidity can be allowed to flow into the economy in any given time period, but this is not the likely scenario. If the central bankers were capable of making this happen, they would have already done it. More likely is that the floodgates will be open and too much liquidity goes into the real economy too quickly. Hyperinflation will then occur and prices could start to skyrocket almost overnight.

Linus Pauling's claim, that he knew a cure for heart disease, cancer and infections, was greeted with ridicule. His remarkable health claims concerned the substance we know as vitamin C. When Pauling looked into Stone's claims, he found that conventional medicine had long ignored evidence from respected physicians and scientists. This research suggested that high doses of vitamin C might be a cure for many illnesses, including cancer and heart disease. However, when he explained these findings in his wonderfully constructed books "Vitamin C and the Common Cold" and "How to Live Longer and Feel Better", the medical profession was incensed, implying that a mere chemist could not possibly understand the intricacies of medical science.

If Pauling was correct, vitamin C could help overcome the major killers in the industrialised world. This sounded so unlikely that a lesser scientist making the claim would probably have been ignored; the medical world had already disregarded similar reports of vitamin C. Linus Pauling had a reputation for being 20 years ahead of other scientists.

He may well have been years ahead in other fields but, in medicine, the insiders considered such a thing to be impossible. Pauling battled with the medical authorities and convinced a lot of the public of the benefits of high dose vitamin C. Now why do you suppose that Shell would want to close a perfectly good oil refinery? It can't be because there is no market for the goods produced there, since that obviously isn't the case. And it isnt due to a lack of raw materials, since the refinery sits, as the Times noted, atop prolific oil fields.

However, such contaminants are unrelated to the petroleum solvent.

The claims about biomarkers have been thoroughly discredited by observations of those molecules in the interiors of ancient, abiotic meteorites, and also in many cases by laboratory synthesis under imposed conditions mimicking the natural environment. In the discussion below, the claims put forth about porphyrin and isoprenoid molecules are addressed particularly, because many look-like/come-from claims have been put forth for those compounds.

The similar(recondite)-properties come-from claims involve diverse, odd phenomena with which persons not working directly in a scientific profession would be unfamiliar. These include the odd-even abundance imbalance claims, the carbon isotope claims, and the optical-activity claims. The first, the odd-even abundance imbalance claims, are demonstrated to be utterly unrelated to any biological property. The second, carbon isotope claims, are shown to depend upon measurement of an obscure property of carbon fluids which cannot reliably be considered a measure of origin. The third, the optical-activity claims, deserve particular note; for the observations of optical activity in natural petroleum have been trumpeted loudly for years as a proof of some biological origin of petroleum. Those claims have been thoroughly discredited decades ago by observation of optical activity in the petroleum material extracted from the interiors of carbonaceous meteorites. More significantly, recent analysis, which has resolved the previously-outstanding problem of the genesis of optical activity in abiotic fluids, has established that the phenomenon of optical activity is an inevitable thermodynamic consequence of the phase stability of multicomponent fluids at high pressures. Thereby, the observation of optical activity in natural petroleum is entirely consistent with the results of the thermodynamic analysis of the stability of the hydrogen-carbon [H-C] system, which establish that hydrocarbon molecules heavier than methane, and particularly liquid hydrocarbons, evolve spontaneously only at high pressures, comparable to those necessary for diamond formation.

Few Americans realize that many of our federal environmental laws and regulations originate at the international level. These laws have a devastating affect on private property, stripping hundreds of millions, perhaps billions of dollars of land value from rural citizens. Federal documents reveal that agencies have a greater desire to enforce these internationally born socialist laws than to protect and serve the citizens of the United States.

The Endangered Species Act, for instance, is authorized by a number of United Nations administered treaties, not on the enumerated powers of Congress given in Article 1, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution. These treaties include the Convention on Nature Protection and Wildlife Preservation in the Western Hemisphere and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. Likewise, the RAMSAR Convention of Wetlands is the pattern for much of the federal wetlands regulation even though the Clean Water Act does not even specifically mention wetlands.

Translated, this means signature states must pass and enforce laws that limit land use activities that may cause harm to biological diversity within ecosystems which includes nearly all land use activities. The publication of the eleven-hundred page 1995 UN Global Biodiversity Assessment (GBA) spelled out this idea and helped define how to write the implementing language for the incomplete treaty.

The GBA calls for property owners to: cede rights to some decision-making regulatory authority [because] resources are non-exclusive in their use: they are in the nature of local public goods. Property rights can still be allocated to the environmental public good, but in this case they should be restricted to usufructual or user rights. Harvesting quotas, emissions permits and the development rights are examples of such rights.

This represents a blatant contradiction to the very intent of the U.S. Constitution which the Founding Fathers designed to protect private property rights, not control them. Even so, the real danger of this treaty was its intent to place 30 to 50 percent of the U.S. into wilderness reserves and interconnecting corridors in order to protect ecosystems and biodiversity.

Since the force of the stream might have hurt them, I put on a nozzle that made a finer spray, and the birds immediately came down to the lowest tip of the branch, where they could get the full force of the mist, holding out their wings, and leaning into the spray so that it ruffled their breast feathers. Their persistence had finally paid off when they got me to understand what they wanted, and they were enjoying the cool water. As new young birds, I don't know how they understood hoses and squirting water, but it was clear that they recognized me as a potentially intelligent being with whom they could communicate.

After WWII, with the emergence of three rival television networks, each with their own news departments, most Americans would have argued that the new age of television would grant them a multiplicity of sources and viewpoints.

Three Networks, One Master

According to the late investigative reporter Eustace Mullins, CBS Chairman William S. Paley was both conduit and operative for the CIA. Many directors of CBS had CIA ties. NBC and ABC Television networks were also riddled with CIA and Rothschild banks-linked directors.

Yet even without these overlapping network directorships, the CIA made a concerted effort to not simply shade and tilt news stories, but to actively recruit journalists to quash stories or to distort and selectively bias the presentation of stories.

We are now, I fear, in the early stages of a third depression. Around the world governments are obsessing about inflation when the real threat is deflation, preaching the need for belt-tightening when the real problem is inadequate spending. After all, unemployment especially long-term unemployment remains at levels that would have been considered catastrophic not long ago, and shows no sign of coming down rapidly.

More than 8 million jobs have been lost since the beginning of the crisis, and yet, President Barack Obama has made no attempt to initiate a second stimulus. Government spending must increase to make up for the slack in demand and to increase capacity. Withdrawing stimulus now, while the economy is still weak, will crimp spending, collapse state tax revenues and increase unemployment.

The only way to reduce a deficit caused by unemployment is to reduce unemployment. And this must be done with a substantial component of private financing, which is to say by bank credit, if the public deficit is going to be reduced.

The economy cannot grow without private sector credit expansion. But the banks are constrained by toxic assets and a lack of creditworthy applicants. On the other hand, deleveraging households and consumers are less willing to borrow at any rate. Retirement age boomers" have lost nearly $12 trillion in net wealth since the crisis began and must hunker-down and save for the years ahead.

High unemployment has led to falling demand which is stifling investment. As households continue to deleverage, many companies will opt to pay down debt rather than seek new investments. This will further reduce economic activity and deepen the slump.

The economy is at a tipping point. CPI is is slipping from disinflation to outright deflation. The cash-strapped states are laying off workers in droves. The rate of underemployment has soared to 16.5%. There are 6 applicants for every new job created. GOP senators and congressmen have quashed a bill that would extend unemployment benefits to over a million workers.

The final debt-driven collapse, in which both wages and profitability plunge, gives the lie to the neoclassical perception that crises are caused by wages being too high, and the solution to the crisis is to reduce wages.

The FOMC's June statement was a real stunner. The economy is losing-ground in nearly every area. Household spending, business spending, bank lending and housing are all either beginning to slow or falling sharply. The recovery is largely a mirage created by inventory adjustments and fiscal stimulus. 46 of the 50 states are mired in huge deficits that will require substantial cuts to balance.

The recovery is not self sustaining.

NATO Orders All “Critical Assets” Moved 100 Miles Inland From Gulf Oil Spill Region?

A grim report circulating in the Kremlin today prepared for President Medvedev by the foreign military intelligence directorate (GRU) warns that Admiral Giampaolo Di Paola, North Atlantic Treaty Organizations (NATO) current Chairman of the Military Committee, has ordered all critical assets of the Western alliance to be moved at least 100 miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico oil spill catastrophe region setting up a potential battle in the US over who will control this disaster as it continues to get worse.

   Asphalt, commonly known to us as the material that covers our streets, has been found flowing out of mounds that rise 450 to 800 meters above the desert-like floor of the Gulf of Mexico. Researchers discovered the asphalt volcanoes during a cruise of the research vessel Sonne. First observed in video footage, the structures were confirmed by bottom samples taken during the expedition. We were actually only searching for the presence of methane at the seafloor, instead we found a new kind of volcano associated with a complex ecosystem," relates Prof. Gerhard Bohrmann enthusiastically.
   
   The researchers surmise that such asphalt volcanoes only occur in the Gulf of Mexico, but that they are abundant there, because the conditions required for their formation - deep water, salt diapirs below the seafloor, and the presence of oil deposits - are found only here.
   
   When special microorganisms deep below the seafloor degrade petroleum, asphalt remains as a waste product. It is not unusual to find small amounts of this, but in some places in the Gulf of Mexico the asphalt covers more than a square kilometer of sea bottom. Video recordings of this mound clearly show how the asphalt flowed out of the crater and down the slope. The pictures are amazingly reminiscent of lava from volcanoes on land. In addition, they are home to numerous life forms: tube worms, clams, fish, crabs, and - typical for deep-sea oases - abundant bacteria.
   
   Asphalt is commonly presumed to be hostile to life. Nevertheless, we have now found a complete ecosystem, not only living on the asphalt, but also apparently feeding on it, says Bohrmann. The amazing thing about this is: as a waste product asphalt no longer contains the usual basic deep-sea nutrients, methane and hydrogen sulfide. Almost all animals living in the deep sea feed on such chemical compounds because energy from the sun only penetrates the upper layer of the ocean.

   Reactions within the US establishment to the firing of Gen. Stanley McChrystal indicate that disparaging remarks by McChrystal and his aides concerning President Obama and other civilian officials published in a Rolling Stone article were not the principal cause of his dismissal.
   
   Rather, the article brought to a head the deepening crisis arising from the failure of the US military to suppress the popular resistance in Afghanistan to Washingtons colonial-style war. Dissatisfaction with McChrystals leadership had been mounting within the Obama administration since the failure of the offensive in Marjah launched last February. The decision announced earlier this month to delay for at least three months the assault on Kandahar was widely seen as an embarrassing setback.
   
   The article, written by Michael Hastings, deals relatively briefly with the remarks of McChrystal and his aides about US civilian officials in Afghanistan. They are predictably crude, and could hardly have come as a surprise to Obama, let alone to the Pentagon. They are familiar with the fascistic and debased character of McChrystals entourage. Hastings concisely describes the generals staff as a handpicked collection of killers, spies, geniuses, patriots, political operators and outright maniacs.

   General Stanley McChrystal, the top US and NATO commander in Afghanistan, has detonated the equivalent of a bomb in the White House by publishing criticism of President Barack Obamas leadership of the campaign.

   That means huge quantities of methane have entered the Gulf, scientists say, potentially suffocating marine life and creating dead zones where oxygen is so depleted that nothing lives.
   
   In early June, a research team led by Samantha Joye of the Institute of Undersea Research and Technology at the University of Georgia investigated a 15-mile-long plume drifting southwest from the leak site. They said they found methane concentrations up to 10,000 times higher than normal, and oxygen levels depleted by 40 percent or more.
   
   The scientists found that some parts of the plume had oxygen concentrations just shy of the level that tips ocean waters into the category of dead zone- a region uninhabitable to fish, crabs, shrimp and other marine creatures.

   At the time, there were conflicting reports that Obama had been born at the Queens Medical Center in Honolulu, as well as the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children across town. So Adams says his office checked with both facilities.
   
   They told us, We dont have a birth certificate for him, he said. They told my supervisor, either by phone or by e-mail, neither one has a document that a doctor signed off on saying they were present at this mans birth.

   My concerns about the NRA immediately rose when I saw the word lawyer in describing the profession of the current NRA president and his immediate predecessor. I don't want lawyers in positions of power over anything that affects the liberty and safety of the American public

   Troubling evidence surrounding the Deepwater Horizon explosion on April 20th suggests that the incident could have been manufactured.
   
   On April 12th, just over one week before the Deepwater Horizon rig exploded, Halliburton, the worlds second largest oilfield services corporation, surprised some by acquiring Boots & Coots, a relatively small but vastly experienced oil well control company.
   
   The company deals with fires and blowouts on oil rigs and oil wells. It was responsible for putting out roughly one third of the more than 700 oil well fires set in Kuwait by retreating Iraqi soldiers during the Gulf War.
   
   Halliburton was forced to admit in testimony at a congressional hearing last month that it carried out a cementing operation 20 hours before the Gulf of Mexico rig went up in flames. The lawsuits claim that four Halliburton workers stationed on the rig improperly capped the well.
   
   As the New York Times noted on May 26th, BP officials chose, partly for financial reasons, to use a type of casing for the well that the company knew was the riskier of two options.
   
   Workers from the rig and company officials have said that hours before the explosion, gases were leaking through the cement, which had been set in place by the oil services contractor, Halliburton. Investigators have said these leaks were the likely cause of the explosion.
   
   According to a 2007 study by Minerals Management Service, cementing was a factor in 18 of 39 rig blowouts in the gulf between 1992 and 2006.
   
   BP has admitted to buying Yahoo and Google keywords in an attempt to control publicly available information in the wake of the catastrophe. It seems that the company is taking all the flack for the spill while the Halliburton link is being roundly ignored.
   
   BPs prepared testimony briefing, which has since leaked online, also intriguingly notes that the Hydraulic Control System on equipment designed to automatically seal the well in an emergency was modified without their knowledge sometime before the explosion.

   Caylor also reports that BP and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which have stated that several hundred air quality monitors have been deployed around the Florida and Alabama coasts and have not detected any benzene levels that would be harmful to human health, are lying.
   
   In fact, Caylor was told by a senior news source at WEAR-TV, the ABC affiliate in Pensacola, that there are no air quality monitors that have been deployed along the coastal bays and inlets by either BP or the EPA. The station sent reporters out to check on the monitors and discovered they were non-existent. The news station also has said that the ABC News network out of New York and CNN are echoing the BP and Obama administrations lines that the air quality is being monitored and is perfectly safe.
   
   The benzene levels in the air are potentially fatally harmful to those with breathing problems, particularly those suffering from asthma and emphysema.
   
   WMR has also learned that officials of the towns of Orange Beach and Gulf Shores, Alabama are livid that oil is washing ashore and neither BP or any federal agency, including the EPA, FEMA, or the Coast Guard, are responding to the oil deluge. In addition, WMR has learned that Florida Governor Charlie Crist is preparing to declare a major state of emergency in Florida with evacuation of coastal residents, especially those prone to the deadly benzene fumes, being a top priority for state emergency responders.

   At a time when progressives are working hard to get candidates for the US Senate to oppose Democrats they deem unacceptable in current primaries, they show no willingness to open the door wide to creating the circumstances to get someone they view as a better progressive to compete against Obama and keep him from winning a second term.

While he was eager to bail out Wall Street he has shown no courage in saving Main Street. He has accomplished nothing effective to create private sector jobs and stands idly by as the middle class continues to slip down into the lower class.

With limits on the amount of pollution a given company can emit, it will be possible for it to buy carbon credits from other outfits that havent used up their government-mandated allotments. The cap on emissions will be constantly lowered, which means that these carbon credits will become scarcer and more valuable as time goes by.
   
   As Taibbi trenchantly puts it, the cap-and-trade scam
   
   is really just a carbon tax structured so that private interests collect the revenues. Instead of simply imposing a fixed government levy on carbon pollution and forcing unclean energy producers to pay for the mess they make, cap-and-trade will allow a small tribe of greedy-as-hell Wall Street swine to turn yet another commodities market into a private tax-collection scheme.
